Dark Mofo is a midwinter festival in Hobart that celebrates the dark through large-scale public art, food, music, fire, light and noise, underpinned by the longest night of any Australian capital city. Delving into centuries-old rituals, Dark Mofo explores the links between ancient and contemporary mythology, humans and nature, religious and secular traditions, darkness and light, birth, death and renewal.

After 10 years of darkness, and in preparation for 10 more, Dark Mofo as we know it is pausing in 2024 for a period of renewal. In its stead Dark Mofo has confirmed the return of two signature events in 2024—the Winter Feast and Nude Solstice Swim. Joining these two rituals will be Night Shift—a late night club offering first seen at the 2021 edition of Dark Mofo—and two mammoth events at Mona, a lavish Gala and a brand new exhibition.

We will return—whole and bountiful—in 2025.

Dark Mofo acknowledges and respects the Palawa people as the traditional and ongoing owners and custodians of the skies, land and water of Lutruwita. We pay our respects to their elders both past and present and acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded.
